The Purpose of the Past Conference was:
The Conference was open to all interested: Clinicians and researchers in the Health Sciences, psychologists, scholars of religious studies, theologians, chaplains, ministers, palliative caregivers, etc.
Research in faith and health and religious coping has made important strides over the past decades. However, most of this research has been conducted in North America in quite a different cultural and religious setting than that of secular Northern Europe. In the countries of Northern Europe, the research traditions of existential philosophy and psychology have been more predominant when investigating existential needs and orientations of patients rather than the North American tradition of religious coping.
Hence, the purpose of the conference was to bring together insights of both traditions in an attempt to strengthen research competences in meaning and health in secular society.World leading researchers in the field addressed issues of high importance to the field during keynote sessions. Ongoing research projects were presented during parallel paper sessions.

The relationship between faith and health has been a relatively ignored subject within Danish health care research. However, recent years have shown an increased focus on the field, among other things inspired by growing international research activity. The Danish Network for Research in Faith and Health functions to further this development. This site presents the work of the network and functions as an interactive IT-platform for its participants.
The overall purpose of this Danish Network for Research in Faith and Health is to connect and facilitate the exchange between scholars that seek to provide evidence based knowledge that is relevant for health care about the existential, spiritual and religious needs and problems that patients experience during treatment, rehabilitation and palliative care. Existing evidence suggests that existential, spiritual and religious issues play a large role in life threatening diseases such as cancer, but there is scarce knowledge about the roles of spirituality in Europe, especially those European countries most impacted by secularization.
The participants employ multiple methods in the generation of data and seek in mutual synergy to provide solid evidence based knowledge on the highest international level. The harvest of such knowledge will be of importance to health professionals, patients and their relatives and is concordant with contemporary emphasis on optimal and coherent treatment of patients with their multiple needs, both physical, psychological and existential.
